NDAA Training at the National Advocacy Center
The National Advocacy Center, situated on the University of South Carolina campus in Columbia, is a joint venture of the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) and the U.S. Department of Justice. For the first time, the training of state and local prosecutors has been centralized in this new impressive complex. In one wing, courses in trial advocacy as well as other aspects of prosecutors' responsibilities will be conducted by the National College of District Attorneys (NCDA) and the American Prosecutors Research Institute (APRI), under contracts with NDAA. The faculty will include leading authorities in every prosecutorial field as guest lecturers.
In the companion wing of the center are the centralized training facilities for all federal prosecutors. The latter is being administered by the Department of Justice's (DOJ) Office of Legal Education (OLE), which was moved from DOJ headquarters in Washington, DC and is under the supervision of Michael W. Bailie, director of OLE. Thus, for the first time, the training facilities for American prosecutors at all levels -- federal, state and local are concentrated in one facility.
The National Advocacy Center contains 262,000 square feet of classroom, conference and hotel space. The facilities include ten full-size courtrooms equipped with state-of-the-art audio technology for training. The hotel, operated by the Marriott Corporation exclusively for the advocacy center, has 265 guestrooms for prosecutor trainees and visiting lecturers. There also is an onsite travel service for the convenience of trainees, faculty and staff.
NDAA offers a wide variety of topics at the National Advocacy Center. All of the courses are designed to provide prosecutors with the very latest tools in trial advocacy and cutting edge expertise in specific subject areas of prosecution.
