Budget and Appropriations
August 29, 2016
The government is currently funded through September 30, 2016, and debate over how to best fund the government after that date will be hotly contested in September when Congress comes back from the August recess. Originally, two potential approaches emerged, one funding the government under a Continuing Resolution through March of 2017, and the other continuing to work on individual appropriations bills and passing a shorter term CR in order to complete the appropriations process. As of late, House leadership has indicated that there may be a short term CR until after the election, followed by debate on a larger funding bill during the lame duck session of Congress.
