NDAA Home Run Hitters
NDAA awarded two Home Run Hitters Awards at its board meeting in early December. Several Texas prosecutors have been recognized for their outstanding achievement in the pursuit of justice. Assistant Tarrant County District Attorney Riley Shaw was awarded the Oscar Sherell Award for his legislative work. And Assistant Attorney General Lisa Tanner was honored with the C. Chris Marshall Award which recognizes prosecutors for their service to the Texas District and County Attorneys Association (TDCAA) through teaching and training. State Senator Dan Patrict was honored as Freshman of the Year by TDCAA. State Representative Larry Phillips was honored with one of its Law & Order Awards.

A coffee-table book entitled The Go-To Guide: Texas’s Top Notch Lawyers, recently published by Texas Lawyer magazine, recognizes several Texas prosecutors as “top-notch lawyers.” Those listed in the publication as outstanding prosecutors include Richard Alpert, assistant county district attorney, Fort Worth; Dick Baker, assistant U.S. attorney, Northern District of Texas; Andy Beach, assistant county district attorney, Dallas; John Bradley, district attorney, Georgetown; and Kelly Seigler, assistant district attorney, Houston.

The University of Michigan Traffic Safety Research Institute recently conducted an evaluation of the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan’s (PAAM) Traffic Safety Training Program. As cited in PAAM’s December 2007 issue of The Michigan Prosecutor, the review concluded that “the PAAM program is more developed and comprehensive than most of the other programs [around the country].” Michigan’s traffic safety resource prosecutor, David Wallace, was specifically recognized in the review as a well-recognized and highly praised resource for prosecutors. The review stated “It was very clear from comments from the . . . programs in other states that Michigan is very fortunate to have someone as dedicated, knowledgeable and energetic as David Wallace at the helm of the program.”

The Center for Digital Government announced the winners of the 2007 Best of Web and Digital Government Achievement Awards. The Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia was awarded the Government to Government Award for their work on the Cordele Data Exchange Project. The Digital Government Achievement Awards recognize “outstanding agency and department Web sites and applications that enhance information interactions, transactions or services.”

The Minnesota County Attorneys Association (MCAA) presented several awards at the 2007 MCAA Annual Meeting. Earl Maus, Cass County attorney was awarded the Johnson Distinguished Service Award for his leadership and his efforts to improve the pursuit of justice. The Award of Excellence was given to Michael Junge, McLeod County attorney in recognition of his high level of dedication, professionalism and commitment to public service. Former assistant Hennepin County attorney, Peter A. Cahill, was honored with the Meritorious Service Award for his leadership and contributions to MCAA in terms of governance. Assistant Dakota County attorney Phil Prokopowicz was awarded the Professional Achievement Award for his dedication to the advancement of prosecution. MCAA’s Public Service Award was presented to U.S. Attorney Thomas Heffelfinger for his support of legislation and public policies that have helped to advance the quality of justice in Minnesota.

On December 31, R. Paul Frasier was sworn in as the Coos County, Oregon, district attorney. Frasier was appointed by Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski to replace Paul Burgett who retired as the DA for the county.
