Civil Gang Injunctions: How to Prevent Gang Violence
With the support of NDAA, on November 9, 2010, the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s National Training and Technical Assistance Center (NTTAC) hosted a webinar entitled, “Civil Gang Injunctions: How to Prevent Gang Violence.” Based on the legal theory of public nuisance, the use of civil gang injunctions is an emerging anti-gang strategy employing court orders to prohibit gang members from participating in certain activities. The webinar was presented by Los Angeles, CA Deputy City Attorney, Jim McDougal and Fresno, CA Chief Deputy District Attorney, Greg Anderson, with an introduction by Whitney Tymas of NDAA’s Gang and Gun Prosecution Program. The instructors covered both theory and practical application and explored why a jurisdiction should consider obtaining a gang injunction.
