Assistant District Attorney

Location: Bethel, Alaska

The Bethel District Attorney’s Office is recruiting to fill a full-time assistant district attorney position. This lively office is responsible for prosecution of criminal cases in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta and Interior Alaska. The position requires frequent court appearances in the superior and district courts at Bethel and often telephonic appearances in village courts. There is significant trial work, including pre-trial motion practice. There are opportunities for travel to some of the 64 communities in the area, and some travel may be required in connection with trial work in other court locations. This is an excellent placement for a person who enjoys outdoor activities, one who is interested in indigenous cultures, or one who seeks a culturally diverse environment.

The Bethel office provides ample opportunity to acquire experience in a wide variety of criminal prosecutions, both misdemeanor and felony, in a short period of time. Assistant District Attorneys who fulfill a two year commitment in a rural location are given preference to transfer to other district attorney offices in the state as vacancies occur. A rural commitment is a great way to acquire a variety of experience that is highly valued within the division.
