Office of the Special Prosecutor

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is an independent agency in the Republic of Palau tasked with investigating and prosecuting government corruption and related crime. While the statutory authority and jurisdiction of the OSP is broad, the office focuses its efforts on high-priority public integrity matters. In this endeavor, the OSP works closely with the Office of the Public Auditor, the Financial Intelligence Unit, the Ethics Commission, and the Ministry of Justice. The OSP also works in cooperation with international partners.

The Office of the President of the Republic of Palau is currently seeking a qualified attorney to serve as Special Prosecutor for the Republic of Palau. The Special Prosecutor position is filled by an appointment process. A candidate for Special Prosecutor is appointed by the President of the Republic of Palau, confirmed by the Senate of the Palau National Congress and, once appointed, subject only to for-cause removal by the President. The Special Prosecutor is expected to serve a term of five years.
