Opioids: A National Discussion
April 25-27, 2018, Cleveland, OH
Registration | Tentative Agenda | Hotel

Our country is in the midst of an opioid epidemic and the numbers are overwhelming. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, opioid overdose deaths were five times higher in 2016 than in 1999. In 2017, the Acting Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary issued a statement upon declaring a nationwide public health emergency regarding the opioid crisis. All jurisdictions are struggling with the opioid crisis and recognize the need to attack it from every front. NDAA, in an effort to move this dialogue from conversation to workable strategies, is gathering speakers in the fields of law enforcement, treatment, community outreach, prosecution, and prevention for a three-day symposium on this important issue. We encourage you to join us in this multi-disciplinary discussion as we collaborate to reduce these staggering statistics and keep our communities and families safe.

Tentative Topics Include:

  • The US Opioid Epidemic — What You Need To Know‎
  • From the Eyes of the Survivors
  • The Collateral Damage
  • Taking on the Pharmaceutical Companies
  • Prosecution Strategies
  • Policy Issues for Government Attorneys and Law Enforcement
  • War on the Pill Mills — Investigative Strategies
  • Fraudulent Prescriptions: Who Is Minding the Pharmacy
  • Alternative Sentencing — Is this Impactful?
  • Illegal Prescribing of Opioids
  • Drug Courts: Pros and Cons
  • Accessing Treatment and Recovery Services
  • Next Steps — Prosecutors taking a Proactive Stance in Leading our Communities
