Achieving Justice for the Silent Victim: A Course in Abusive Head Trauma

September 12 - 15, 2022

Salt Lake City, UT

Child abuse cases are some of the most difficult cases to prosecute and investigate. Child victims usually cannot relay what happened to them, the medical evidence can be overwhelming, and these cases are often heavily litigated in court. The successful investigation and prosecution of abusive head trauma cases requires knowledge, collaboration, and diligence. Join the NDAA for a three- and one-half-day intensive course dedicated solely to abusive head trauma.

Topics to be addressed include:

  • Understanding the medical evidence
  • Managing the effective investigation of an abusive head trauma case
  • How to work with your Multidisciplinary Team
  • Understanding the medical literature
  • Effective preparation and direct examination of your child abuse expert
  • Pre-trial motion practice
  • Trial considerations
  • How to deal with the defense expert
  • Charging and disposition considerations
  • Prosecutor well-being
