Assistant District Attorney

Location: Fairbanks, Alaska

The Fairbanks District Attorney’s Office is seeking a highly-motivated, energetic attorney to prosecute cases in Fairbanks where we are filling a full-time assistant district attorney position.   Applicants should have strong oral advocacy skills.  Prior prosecutorial experience is a plus, but is not required.  This position requires the ability to think critically and reason logically; the ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing; the ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a deadline-controlled atmosphere; and the ability to manage numerous matters simultaneously.

The Fairbanks office consists of 15 prosecutors and 17 support staff.  We prosecute violations of criminal law in Interior and Northern Alaska, which includes frequent trials, significant pre-trial motion practice, daily court hearings, and some post-conviction and appellate work.  In addition to the three district and six superior court judges in Fairbanks, this office also covers the Utqiagvik, Tok, Galena, Delta Junction, Nenana, and Fort Yukon courts and offers occasional opportunity to travel to these locations.

Fairbanks is a modern, but small, community with about 100,000 people in the greater Fairbanks region.  The University of Alaska Fairbanks, with its large campus and course offerings, is located here and there are two military bases in the vicinity that add to our diverse population.  We have the large stores (Walmart, Fred Meyer, Safeway, Lowes, Home Depot, and Costco) and local stores with the Interior Alaska touch.  We have a movie theater, several gyms, including Planet Fitness and The Alaska Club, and an international airport with direct connections to many locations in the “lower 48.”  There are many outdoor opportunities here both in the summer (hiking trails, fishing, 2.5 hours from Denali National Park) and winter (snowmachining and cross country skiing reigns supreme).
