Assistant District Attorney

Location: Juneau, Alaska

The Juneau District Attorney’s Office is seeking a highly-motivated, energetic attorney to prosecute cases in the capital city where we are filling a full-time assistant district attorney position. Applicants should have strong oral advocacy skills. Prior prosecutorial experience is a plus, but it is not required. This position requires the ability to think critically and reason logically; the ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing; the ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a deadline-controlled atmosphere; and the ability to manage numerous matters simultaneously.

The Juneau office consists of 4 attorneys and 5 staff with a satellite office in Sitka consisting of 1 attorney and 2 staff. We prosecute violations of criminal law, sharing the responsibility for prosecuting misdemeanor crimes committed in the City and Borough of Juneau with the city prosecutor’s office.  The prosecution of state cases requires frequent trials, pre-trial motion practice, weekly grand jury presentations, daily court hearings, and some post-conviction and appellate work. In addition to the single district and three superior court judges in Juneau, this office also covers the Haines, Hoonah, Skagway, Wrangell, and Yakutat courts and offers occasional opportunity to travel to these locations.
