Diversion: A Rehabilitative Approach to Reduce Gun Crime
Webinar Panel Discussion
March 2, 2021
2:00 p.m. Eastern

The National District Attorneys Association in partnership with the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Gun Violence will host a one-hour webinar panel discussion that will review types of both prosecution led and court diversion programs for gun offenses.  Speakers will discuss the experience of Minneapolis and Hennepin County with their existing formalized court gun offense diversion programs, and the prosecutor-led gun offense diversion program being considered in East Baton Rouge.

Gun offense diversion programs are a new, rehabilitative approach to reduce the staggering amount of gun crime in America that build on the experience of other types of diversion programs and specialty courts. They give prosecutors and the courts an alternative to conviction and sentencing when appropriate.

Attendees will gain valuable insight into the emerging use of gun offence diversion that will allow them to begin the process of evaluating how such a program might be developed in their jurisdiction.

The Honorable Juan G. Hoyos
